An unforgettable weekend in Cameron Highlands
It was supposed to be a relaxing weekend.
We wanted strawberries, tea, and maybe a cute café or two. But with seven friends, one old van, and zero real planning and of course it became an adventure.
There were seven of us; Hana who is the planner who doesn't actually plan, Hafizah who is in chaos in human form, Ika who is cool and collected until you mess with her snacks, Zharifah who is our designated known as "kakak kamera", Dila who is basicaly Waze with legs, Faizah who is the drives with anxiety and snacks and lastly and definitely is me who is the who just come for the vibes.
Day 1: Tanah Rata with Kabut dan Kejutan
We arrived just before Maghrib. The air was cold, kabut tebal, and Faizah was already regretting agreeing to drive the winding roads. The homestay was up a steep hill with no proper signage. We spent 15 minutes reversing because Hafizah said, “Korang, aku rasa jalan ni betul.”
It wasn’t.
After checking in (finally), we walked to the night market. Dila already remove her scarf and Hafizah inquiry dila. "Eh, Dila kau buka tudung tudung dah Dila"?. "Kau ni Dila cuba istiqamah sikit".
Dila cuma tersengih. "Hehe alah kau ni Hafizah, kejap jer. Nanti aku pakailah balik".
Hafizah mengangkat bahunya "Ikut suka kaulah Dila" Janji kau happy. Eh, dah lah jom cepat! diaorg semua dah tunggu tu dekat luar. Nanti bising pula Zharifah"
Me, just smile look at them.
All the 7 sekawan walking down the road went to the night market which is take 10 minutes from the homestay.
It was heaven with jagung bakar, sweet potato balls, grilled meat on skewers, strawberry everything. Hafizah bought a whole tray of cheese-stuffed mushrooms and dropped half of it on the road.
We had a moment of silence. We finished all the foods that we bought. Everyone looks full and that night we sleep early because tomorrow we had more adventures to go.
Day 2: Mossy Forest with Mist, Mud, and Misadventure
'Mari kita tunaikan solat
Sehari semalam lima waktu
Nabi kita nabi Muhammad
Tuhan kita Allah yang satu'
Raihan nasyid song were heard from someone phone!
We just stood there, seven city kids in the clouds, feeling small in the best way.
Then it rained. Heavily. We had to descend half the trail slipping and sliding like penguins on a wet slide.
Tea Plantation with More Drama, Less Tea
After drying up, we visited the BOH Tea Centre. The view was unbelievable with the endless green hills, the smell of tea in the air. Everyone wanted the perfect photo. Everyone wanted to sit at the best spot in the café.
Then Hafizah said, “Aku nak buat vlog,” and proceeded to spill her hot teh tarik all over her white shirt… and part of Zharifah’s lens bag.
We still took a group photo. The caption?
“Sip happens.”
Strawberry Farm with Manis, Masam, Memori
Our last stop was a strawberry farm. We picked our own, fed some goats nearby, and had strawberry ice cream that was somehow both too cold and too sweet. Dila tried to flirt with the cashier and got offered a "Buy 5, Free 1" promo out of pity.
The Ride Home with Quiet Hearts and Full Memories
As we descended the winding road back to the lowlands, the van was filled with music, leftover snacks, and a silence that wasn’t awkward and just full.
Full of memories.
